Red fishing cabins beneath a granite peak on the coast of Lofoten, Norway, in winter

Made where the light runs short.

Kavier began as a repair bench in Oslo in 1962. Sixty-four years later we still design for long northern winters: dials you can read by lamplight, cases that sit flat under a wool cuff, and movements a watchmaker can open and service for generations.

Lofoten, Norway. Our design team spends two weeks here every January.

Inside the case

Calibre H-11

Developed with a family atelier in the Vallée de Joux over five years, the H-11 is wound by every movement of your wrist and keeps three full days of energy in reserve. Take it off on Friday evening; it is still running on Monday morning.

The collection

Four dials, one case.

Every Meridian 38 shares the same brushed steel case and H-11 movement. The dials are named after the Norwegian landscapes their colours came from. Choose one to see it on the watch above.

On the wrist

Made to be worn, not kept.

At 38 mm and 9.4 mm thin, the Meridian fits slim and broad wrists alike and slides under a shirt cuff. It is water resistant to 100 metres, so there is no reason to take it off.

9.4 mmFrom caseback to crystal. Thin enough to slide under a shirt cuff, solid enough for 100 metres of water.
  1. A repair bench in Oslo

Ingrid and Arne Kavier open a two-room workshop near the harbour, servicing the pocket watches and ship's clocks of the city's fishermen.

  2. The first Kavier wristwatch

The Polar 34 is made for a Svalbard survey team who needed a watch they could read in the dark of the polar night. Forty were built.

  3. We said no to quartz

While much of the industry turned to batteries, the workshop shrank to nine watchmakers and kept building mechanical watches.

  4. A second home in the Jura

A partnership with a family atelier in the Vallée de Joux brings Swiss movement-making to Kavier designs.

  5. Work begins on the H-11

Our first in-house calibre takes five years and 214 prototypes to reach the reliability we promised ourselves.

  6. Meridian 38

The first watch built around the H-11, in a numbered edition of 250. Each one is assembled and cased by a single watchmaker, whose initials are engraved inside the caseback.

Questions

Before you reserve.

Anything else, write to atelier@kavier.example. A watchmaker answers, usually the same day.

When will my watch arrive?

The first Meridian 38 pieces ship from October 2026, in reservation order. Your confirmation email gives an estimated week, and we send tracking the day it leaves Oslo.

What does "Swiss made" mean for a Norwegian watch?

The H-11 movement is made, assembled and regulated at our partner atelier in the Vallée de Joux, and the watch is cased there. Design, finishing of the dial and all after-sales service happen in Oslo.

How accurate is it?

Each movement is regulated in five positions and certified to −2 / +4 seconds per day. Mechanical watches drift a little with temperature and how you wear them; a 30-second adjustment every week or two is normal.

Can I change the strap?

Yes. The 20 mm lugs take any standard strap, and the supplied leather has quick-release spring bars, so no tools are needed. Steel bracelets and rubber straps will be available from December.

Can I cancel a reservation?

Any time before your watch ships, with one click from your confirmation email. Nothing is charged until we invoice you on dispatch.

What happens to my details?

We keep your name and contact details only to handle your reservation, delivery and warranty. We never sell or share them, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.

Four letters a year from Oslo: new pieces before anyone else sees them, notes from the watchmakers, and the occasional photograph of a midsummer sunset over the fjord.
